MoleMap by Dermatologists was established in Australia in 2005 following the successful introduction of the technology in 2003, through the Sydney based provider of occupational skin screening services, Skin Patrol
Initially located in Victoria, in partnership with leading dermatologists, the number of MoleMap clinics expanded rapidly across the eastern seaboard of Australia. The provision of full service MoleMap clinics on the East Coast is part on an ongoing plan to provide all Australians with access to a comprehensive melanoma management programme. MoleMap is at the forefront of delivering a melanoma detection and management programme that is effective and affordable, using proven technology in conjunction with the experts in skin cancer – dermatologists.
The Development of MoleMap
MoleMap was formed in 1997 by a group of New Zealand dermatologists to provide a cost effective melanoma screening programme using the latest in imaging technology combined with the expertise of dermatologists. The founders of MoleMap developed the company after observing that, despite continuing educational programmes promoting sun protection, the number of deaths from melanoma each year was not decreasing. They recognised that melanomas were not always being picked up in routine skin checks because the doctors carrying out these checks did not always have the technology or skills to recognise melanomas, particularly at the early stage.
Using the expertise of dermatologists, scientists, engineers and software developers, MoleMap has developed a highly accurate skin imaging system for the early detection of melanoma. The imaging systems are used in standalone clinics, or within an existing specialist practice, for recording moles and other skin lesions. The clinics are connected to a network of dermatologists via a secure virtual private network. These dermatologists receive the data and images and use sophisticated software tools for analysis, assessment and reporting. A central database provides reliable, secure and cost-effective services for storing and sharing of critical patient images and data.
MoleMap's Panel of International Dermatologists
MoleMap currently has nine consulting dermatologists who are responsible for the diagnosis of the patient's data and images. They are all experts in the field of dermoscopy having used this in their day to day practice for many years.
