Using your record of your skin.Central to the success of melanoma surveillance is using that baseline record of your skin. This is why we provide free re-imaging of suspect moles between annual examinations, and why we recall you for re-imaging of all your moles, based on the diagnosing dermatologists recommendations. Case 1 -Was that there before? This is a question we have all asked ourselves, and with your baseline total body images, the answer is much easier to ascertain
In the case above, the answer was "Yes - but it looks different". These images were taken 12 months apart, and demonstrate the value of the high quality Total Body Photography, which identifies the mole was there previously, but is now much larger, and given the definite history of change, it was removed and diagnosed as a level 3 melanoma.
Case 2 -hmmm - I think that has changed! Has that changed? That little bit of doubt, can slowly build overtime, and make you very anxious - knowing what the mole looked like a year or two ago, makes answering the question significantly easier - either yes it has (at which point the dermatologist can then decide if the change is normal or dangerous) or no it hasn't, which in almost all situations, highlights benign mole.

This case is of one mole of nearly 100 on the patients' body. At the annual follow, this mole had changed slightly, warranting further monitoring. Six months later this mole had continued to change/evolve and removal of the mole was advised.
