Are Your Spots Changing?

One of the key advantages of having a MoleMap is that we create a comprehensive medical record of your skin that enables our dermatologists to look for subtle changes in your moles over time – subtle changes that could indicate melanoma skin cancer.

The following images of an early stage melanoma help illustrate the benefits of monitoring moles over time:

The above clinical image of an early melanoma could be missed in a routine clinical examination i.e. it looks very simialr to a normal mole.

However, the utilisation of dermoscopic 'serial monitoring' of the mole over a period of one year picked up changes in its structure that warranted this mole be excised. It was diagnosed as an in situ melanoma (very early, non invasive stage).

Now that you have an existing MoleMap medical record, any follow-up visits will enable us to keep an eye out for subtle changes that could indicate early melanoma. This technique also confirms when moles are stable and this helps keep unnecessary excisions of benign moles to a minimum.
