Your questions, answered

What’s the cost of a Bendigo skin cancer check?

At MoleMap Bendigo, the cost of our services depends on whether you opt for a SkinCheck or Full Body MoleMap. The Full Body MoleMap is a thorough assessment with full body imaging and proactive monitoring of 'potentially at risk' moles. SkinCheck is intended for people at low risk or who have spotted a new or changing mole. There's the option to have it with or without full body imaging. Visit our services page for prices and a comparison of included features. While MoleMap services are not bulk billed, you may be able to claim part of the fee through your private health insurance.

Does Bendigo skin cancer clinic offer treatment?

Currently, we don’t provide skin cancer treatment at our Bendigo clinic. However, stay tuned. We are introducing  treatments at select MoleMap clinics as part of our commitment to our patient’s skin and general health.

How long can you have skin cancer without knowing?

Some types of skin cancers grow very slowly. Other types of skin cancer are easier to see, providing you take notice of the changes in your skin. The best method to ensure benign and cancerous lesions are detected early is with regular skin examinations. This means a greater chance of timely treatment and a better outcome. Book your appointment at MoleMap’s Skin Cancer Clinic Bendigo today.

What is my skin cancer risk?

There are many factors that can affect your individual skin cancer risk. Key factors include:

  • Family history of skin cancer
  • Previous UV damage
  • Skin type
  • The number of moles you have
  • Age

Find out your risk factors in just minutes. Take our quick risk quiz now.

How can I prevent skin cancer?

Melanoma, basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma are all linked to sun exposure—which means smart sun habits can go a long way. Avoid prolonged sun exposure, especially during peak UV hours, and wear protective clothing, a broad-brimmed hat, and SPF 50+ sunscreen daily.

Stay on top of any skin concerns with an annual professional full body skin check. In between checks, keep an eye out for suspicious spots, especially in areas that are easy to miss, like your scalp, back, or behind the ears—and book a professional check if something doesn’t look or feel right.

How do I prepare for my MoleMap appointment?

Before your appointment, take note of any new or changing spots or skin concerns. This can help guide your clinician to any areas you’re worried about. Avoid wearing makeup, nail polish, or fake tan on the day, as these can make it harder to see unusual lesions.

During your appointment, you’ll be asked to undress down to your underwear (a gown is provided for comfort). Your skin will be examined from top to toe, including areas that are often overlooked in DIY checks. The goal? To detect anything suspicious early, before it becomes a bigger issue.

Why is total body mole mapping important?

Mole mapping offers a detailed photographic record of the skin surface, helping to track changes over time. This is especially valuable for people with many moles, fair skin, or a personal or family history of skin cancer. This comprehensive approach to body checks captures images of your entire body, making it easier to identify potential skin cancers or any new, changing, or suspicious spots. When combined with regular review, mole mapping is one of the most effective tools for timely detection and peace of mind.

Why choose MoleMap over a standard GP skin check?

While some GP skin examinations may be bulk billed, they often involve limited dermoscopic photography and don’t include a full imaging record. At MoleMap, we specialise in total body mole mapping, using digital analysis and dermoscopic photography to assess moles under high magnification.

Our melanographers have a special interest in skin cancer detection, and all concerning lesions are reviewed by a dermatologist. Plus, you don’t need a referral, and your appointment includes a clear, tailored report to share with your treating doctor if needed.
