“At my annual full body skin exam, the melanographer found a small pin-sized spot on my ear and recommended I have it examined further. It turned out to be cancerous. If it wasn’t for MoleMap, it would have gone unnoticed.”

Your questions, answered

What is a skin cancer clinic?

Skin cancer clinics perform skin and mole examinations, biopsies, and removals of suspicious moles, as well as treatment. They also offer education to help prevent and protect against skin cancer. Skin cancer clinics are typically run by GPs with a special interest and training in skin cancer detection. At MoleMap, our skin cancer clinics are run by melanographers—registered nurses with specialised training in the early detection of melanoma and other skin cancers. Any suspicious moles undergo further assessment and diagnosis by an accredited dermatologist.

Who’s the best person to check for skin cancer?

For many people, their first port of call is their local GP. Depending on the GPs level of training in this area, you may be referred to a dermatologist or a skin cancer detection specialist like MoleMap. The benefit of visiting Ballarat skin cancer clinic is that, unlike GPs, we specialise in skin cancer and skin cancer only. Our melanographers perform skin checks daily, making them highly experienced in knowing what to look for. Additionally, our skin checks include a dermatologist diagnosis, without the need (or wait) for referral. While GPs, dermatologists and skin clinics can check for skin cancer, we recommend choosing the one you feel most comfortable with.

What is my skin cancer risk?

At Ballarat skin cancer clinic, the cost of our skin check services depends on whether you opt for a SkinCheck or Full Body MoleMap. The Full Body MoleMap is a thorough skin assessment with full body imaging, proactive monitoring of 'potentially at risk' and free spot checks for 12 months. SkinCheck is intended for people at low risk or who have spotted a new or changing mole. There's the option to have it with or without full body imaging.
