Just one sunburn increases your risk of skin cancer

A single blistering sunburn during childhood or adolescence can damage your skin. Five or more sunburns doubles your risk of developing potentially deadly melanoma. The good news is that a skin check can spot the damage before it’s too late.

At Waterloo skin cancer clinic, you’ll get a thorough head-to-toe skin check. Using advanced technology, we spot signs of melanoma not visible to the naked eye. Suspicious moles are imaged and sent for further review and diagnosis by an accredited dermatologist. No referral needed.

“At my annual full body skin exam, the melanographer found a small pin-sized spot on my ear and recommended I have it examined further. It turned out to be cancerous. If it wasn’t for MoleMap, it would have gone unnoticed.”

How much is a mole check in Waterloo?

Within Australia, skin check prices vary, depending on which mole check service provider you choose. At MoleMap Waterloo skin cancer clinic, our mole check services depend on the type of skin cancer check you select. Our most comprehensive service is our Full Body MoleMap. This includes full body imaging and ongoing, proactive skin monitoring. It is recommended for anyone with a medium to high risk of getting melanoma. For people at low risk or who have spotted a new or changing mole, we suggest having a SkinCheck (there's the option to have it with or without total body imaging). For more information on the pricing and what's included, visit our SkinCheck or Full Body MoleMap pages. Don’t know your skin cancer risk? Take our quick risk quiz to find out.

How long does it take for a skin check in Waterloo?

The time it takes to perform your skin check will depend on which service you choose.

What are the signs of melanoma?

Understanding the ABCDE + EFG rules can help you to recognise the early signs of melanoma.

  • Asymmetrical in shape
  • Borders are irregular
  • Colours are uneven or unusual
  • Diameter is growing
  • Evolving shape
  • + Elevated
  • Firm to touch
  • Growth is rapid

Melanoma may look different to other skin cancers. This is why a regular skin check or mole check with a specialist in skin cancer detection is important. It’s also a good idea to do regular (ideally every 3 months) at-home skin checks. If you notice a change or an unusual mole, seek advice immediately.
