Secure Your Skin Health with MoleMap in Geelong

Your questions, answered

What’s the cost of skin checks in Geelong?

At MoleMap, the cost of skin cancer screening depends on which service you choose. The Full Body MoleMap is a thorough assessment with total body imaging and proactive monitoring of 'potentially at risk' moles. Skin Check is intended for people at low risk or who have spotted a new or changing lesion. There's the option to have it with or without total body photography. Visit our services page for prices and a comparison of included features. While MoleMap services are not bulk billed, you may be able to claim part of the fee through your private health insurance.

Who will I see at my Geelong skin check?

At MoleMap Geelong, you'll be seen by a melanographer. These are registered healthcare professionals who are specially trained in early detection and imaging spots showing signs of skin cancer. During your visit, they'll discuss your skin health and history of skin cancer and advise on ways to protect your skin from skin cancer.

How do I know my skin cancer risk?

Skin cancer risk varies from one person to another. Key factors that can increase your risk include:

  • A family history or personal history of skin cancer
  • Previous skin damage
  • Fair skin (skin that burns easily)
  • A high number of moles
  • Spending large amounts of time outdoors

How should I prepare for my skin cancer check?

Our skin cancer checks Geelong are performed by our team of melanographers, who provide patients with personalised care, ensuring you feel safe and comfortable at all times. To prepare for your visit, we recommend:

  • Removing any makeup, moisturiser, tanning products, sunscreen, and nail polish beforehand.
  • Wearing comfortable clothing that’s easy to remove.
  • Doing a DIY skin check so you can highlight any freckles or spots of concern. of concern.

What’s the difference between full body mole mapping and a regular skin check?

Mole Mapping (which is part of our Full Body MoleMap) uses high-resolution digital imaging to create a baseline record of moles and skin spots (AKA lesions). This helps us to track, monitor and compare moles over time. It assists with the early detection of changes that may indicate melanoma or other types of skin cancers

A skin check, on the other hand, is a comprehensive head-to-toe examination to check for signs and symptoms of skin cancer. It does not include a record of the placement of moles. Its main purpose is to assess the current state of the skin and identify any moles or lesions of concern. The best thing is that you get two sets of expert eyes on your skin — a melanographer’s and a dermatologist’s — for a more accurate diagnosis.

How long does a MoleMap skin check take ?

The length of appointment will depend on the skin check service you select.

  • A Full Body MoleMap takes up to 50 minutes.
  • A MoleMap SkinCheck+ takes up to 30 minutes.
  • A MoleMap SkinCheck takes up to 20 minutes.

What if skin cancer is detected? Does MoleMap provide treatment?

Selected MoleMap clinics, including Geelong, provide skin cancer treatment. A range of surgical options are available alongside non-surgical treatments. While surgery is the main treatment, it may also be treated topically, with cryotherapy or photodynamic therapy. Your consult will include a personalised treatment plan, an estimate of costs and an opportunity to have any questions you have answered.

Because Australia has some of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world, regular skin exams are vital to detect skin cancer in its earliest stages, when it's most treatable.
